Vancouver lawyer Neil Burton Wang has received a four-month suspension for professional misconduct.
A LSBC Tribunal hearing panel found that Wang committed professional misconduct by failing to make reasonable inquiries about the circumstances of trust funds and make records of such inquiries. Wang failed to obtain, record and verify client identification information and to properly manage trust funds and maintain accounting records
At the disciplinary action phase, the hearing panel found the cumulative effect of these breaches significant as they occurred across multiple matters, over an extended time, and involved systemic failures in fulfilling essential duties. The misconduct undermines public trust in the legal profession’s capacity to safeguard client property, prevent misuse of trust accounts, and comply with its own regulatory framework.
Wang’s suspension will begin on October 15, 2025.
