Vancouver lawyer Timothy Chi-Kwan Wan suspended for six months

Vancouver lawyer Timothy Chi-Kwan Wan has admitted to professional misconduct and agreed to a six-month suspension, effective May 1, 2026.

In a consent agreement, Wan admitted that between 2018 and 2023, while acting for multiple clients, he provided legal services and permitted the use of his trust account in circumstances he knew or ought to have known assisted or encouraged dishonesty, crime or fraud. Wan failed to make reasonable inquiries regarding his clients’ identities, source of funds and to be on guard against becoming a dupe of an unscrupulous client. Wan also failed to cooperate with the Law Society’s investigation by making numerous false and misleading statements, withholding communication records between himself and his client and providing fabricated documents.

In accepting the agreement, the Chair of the Discipline Committee considered an Agreed Statement of Facts, a letter from Wan and outcomes in other cases.
