Before applying to PLTC
Before applying to the Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC), you must:
- be enrolled in or applying to the Law Society Admission Program; and
- have entered into an Articling Agreement.
You should also carefully review the “FAQ: Law Society Admission Program” information sheet and the information about PLTC’s retirement later next year: Upcoming Changes to the Bar Admission Training Program.
When to take PLTC
The Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC) is an online course. You may attend PLTC at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of articles, subject to space available in the session requested.
Note that if you attend PLTC at the end of your articling year and you are unable to successfully pass the course, you will be required to do so in the next regularly scheduled PLTC session. In these circumstances, your eligibility date to begin practice may be delayed.
The dates and deadlines for the 2026 sessions are set out below:
Session name | Date | Application deadline | Accommodation request deadline |
Spring 2026 | February 2 – April 10, 2026 | October 3, 2025 | January 19, 2026 |
Summer 2026* | May 19 – July 24, 2026 | December 12, 2025 | May 4, 2026 |
*Summer 2026 will be the last PLTC session offered by the Law Society of British Columbia.
How to apply for PLTC
Step 1: Download and complete the Professional Legal Training Course Application form.
The Summer session is always highly requested and we cannot guarantee that you will be admitted. If you would like to put onto the waitlist for the February 2026 session, please check this option as well.
Step 2: Send your completed application form by email to pltc@lsbc.org or by mail to the Law Society before the deadline of the session you requested. As PLTC application deadlines are strictly enforced, you are responsible for ensuring that the Law Society receives your application before the deadline date for the session requested if you are sending your application by mail.
Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email confirmation of receipt from the Law Society. If you do not receive this confirmation email, contact pltc@lsbc.org immediately.
Step 3: Approximately eight weeks after the application deadline, you will receive an email confirming which PLTC session you are registered for. If your first choice is oversubscribed, you can elect to be added to the waitlist for the oversubscribed session. You will be waitlisted by date of receipt of your application form by PLTC.
As noted above, the Summer session is always highly requested and we cannot guarantee that you will be admitted. If this occurs, we will advise you by February 6, 2026 so that you can make arrangements to apply to CPLED directly for Accelerated PREP in September 2026 or later.
Academic accommodations
PLTC is committed to ensuring that candidates receive appropriate accommodations to ensure equitable access to the licensing program, while maintaining the validity of PLTC assessment and examination procedures.
If you require accommodations in the PLTC session as a result of a disability or on another basis, please submit the relevant completed request forms by the above noted deadline for the PLTC session you are registered in.
- Accommodation Request - Candidate Form
- Accommodation Request - Medical Form (to be completed by a qualified healthcare professional)
Please review the instructions on both forms carefully. You are responsible for making the necessary arrangements for a qualified healthcare professional to complete the Medical Form by the above noted deadline. If your accommodation request package is received after the deadline set out above or it is incomplete, it may not be possible to address your late request as many accommodations require time to arrange and set up supports.
If you require additional information on the accommodation request process, please contact us at Accommodations@lsbc.org.
