Taking the Barrister and Solicitors’ Oath
When Registration & Licensee Services has confirmed your eligibility for call and admission, they will send you instructions on how to access your Barrister and Solicitors’ Oath from the Member Portal.
You will swear your oath before a judge of the Provincial Court or a superior court in BC or before a practising lawyer in good standing with the Law Society. Ensure that:
- the person administering the oath signs your unique version of the oath; and
- you submit the signed oath through the Member Portal.
After your signed oath is received, we will confirm your call date and your name will be added to the Lawyer Directory.
Call and Admission Ceremonies
We encourage you to plan to attend a Call and Admission Ceremony. Ceremonies are held four times a year at the Vancouver Law Courts and by arrangement for those wishing to be called in another BC region.
Call and Admission Ceremonies are a longstanding tradition for the legal profession. While no longer mandatory, they provide an opportunity to be presented to the court, connect with peers and mentors, and celebrate this important milestone with family, friends, and colleagues.
