Tips for using an agent to verify an individual’s identity

If you retain an agent to verify an individual’s identity, you must have an arrangement or agreement in writing with the agent for this purpose. You must not rely on information that the agent obtained for verification unless you obtain from the agent (not through the client) all information that the agent obtained, and are satisfied the agent verified identity in accordance with Rule 3-102. Read Rule 3-104 and see “Using an agent to verify a client’s identity” in the Frequently Asked Questions and the sample agent agreement to learn more.
