You must complete two significant training components for call and admission.
- Supervised experience
You must arrange and successfully complete at least nine months of articles, unless this time has been reduced, or a judicial clerkship
You must register for and pass the Law Society’s approved bar admission training course, which is the Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP) offered by the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED). CPLED will offer PREP for BC applicants starting September 2026. See our PREP page and the CPLED website for full details.
Later in your articles, you will also complete a mandatory six-hour Practice Management Course online (or, if you clerked, as part of your call and admission requirements). See: Other Law Society requirements
The 24-month admission period
You must complete your supervised experience (articling term or judicial clerkship) and the training course within the 24 months immediately preceding the date you apply for call and admission. This 24-month window is referred to as your “admission period”: Rule 2-76.
You may complete the two training components in any order, with or without a gap, provided they occur within your 24-month admission period.
