We are pleased to announce that Law Society of BC CEO/Executive Director Gigi Chen-Kuo has been recognized as one of BC’s most influential business leaders in Business in Vancouver’s BC500 list for the second year in a row.
The publication, which is available online for Business in Vancouver subscribers, recognizes leaders who have significantly impacted the province's communities, industries and overall economy. Each leader featured has demonstrated remarkable professional contributions and shown a strong commitment to community involvement and non-profit work.
Gigi joined the Law Society in January 2025 to lead the organization's strategic priorities and operations. Under Gigi’s leadership, a renewed strategic plan was created, with objectives to advance the Law Society’s work in areas such as innovation, reconciliation, inclusion and access to justice. Working with a coalition of law societies across Canada, Gigi also oversaw the launch of the Ours to Protect national campaign to raise awareness for the importance of the rule of law. She continues to steer the organization steadily through a period of uncertainty as we challenge the constitutionality of the Legal Professions Act and at the same time, continue to fulfill the new Act’s statutory requirements to prepare for transition to a single legal regulator.
Called to the Bar in 1991, Gigi practiced law before serving in senior leadership roles at BC Transit and TransLink, including Interim CEO, Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, and Executive Vice-President. Gigi serves on the boards of Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union, the British Columbia Automobile Association, and Transportation Investment Corporation, and is Chair of Union Gospel Mission. She is also a member of the Allard School of Law Dean's Advisory Council at the University of British Columbia. In 2022, she was recognized as a YWCA Women of Distinction nominee and a finalist for the Women's Infrastructure Network Outstanding Leader Award.
