Vancouver lawyer Edwin Soon suspended for one month

Vancouver lawyer Edwin Soon has received a one-month suspension for professional misconduct.

A Law Society Tribunal hearing panel found that Soon committed professional misconduct by failing to honour a trust condition while acting for a client in the purchase of a residential property. Soon disbursed $47,322 in trust funds to the client when the funds were required to remain in trust and be repaid to the real estate brokerage if the sale was not complete. At the hearing, Soon confirmed that the facts were not in dispute and admitted that his conduct constituted professional misconduct.

In making its decision, the hearing panel took into consideration his professional conduct record, which included a 2012 conduct review that involved a breach of an undertaking.

Soon’s suspension will begin on December 1, 2026. In addition to the suspension, Soon is ordered to pay $6,275 in costs.

The full decision is available on the Tribunal’s website.
