Additional articling requirements

Bencher Interview

During their articles, students must attend an informal meeting with a Law Society Bencher known as a Bencher Interview.

The purpose of the Bencher Interview is to give you an opportunity to discuss your articling experience and ask any questions about the profession. The Bencher will provide information about the Law Society’s role and functions, the professional standards and expectations of students and lawyers, and the various resources available to support your learning, professional development, and mental health and well-being. Conversations with a Bencher, both during the interview and in any further interactions, are confidential.

Registration and Licensee Services will contact you after the first third of your articles to tell you which Bencher has been assigned to you and give you instructions on how to arrange the Bencher Interview. Interviews are typically scheduled during weekday business hours and may be in person or virtual, based on the Bencher’s availability.

Practice Management Course

To qualify for call and admission, you must certify your completion of the Law Society’s Practice Management Course: Rule 2-76. The course covers key practice management topics through online modules. It takes about six (6) hours to complete.

How to access and complete the course

About two months before the end of your articling term, you will receive an email from our learning platform, Brightspace, with information about how to log in and complete the Practice Management Course.
