The Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC) will retire in August 2026 and no further sessions will be offered. However, the Law Society will continue to offer assessments and exams for remaining PLTC students through the PLTC Completion Program.
Who the PLTC Completion Program is for
The program is for final candidates who:
- attended PLTC up to and including the May 2026 session; and
- have one or more of the six assessments and exams still to complete after failing or deferring.
How the PLTC Completion Program will work
Final candidates will have the same opportunities to prepare and be supported for each assessment and examination as they did before the PLTC retirement.
Starting in September 2026, we will offer:
- three cycles of the six assessments and exams; and
- for each cycle, remedial workshops before each of the skills assessments for those who failed a previous attempt, and tutorial support for Indigenous-identifying students.
The assessments and exams will continue in their existing online formats, with the option to complete the written assessments and exams remotely or online while in-person at the Law Society.
The PLTC Completion Program will continue the same process for grading, reviewing, and student applications for a mark review, with one notable exception. Grades will be released after each assessment or exam, rather than all together at the end of each cycle. This is designed to allow final candidates to complete their PLTC journey faster.
Assessment and Examination Schedule
PLTC Completion Program cycles will offer the assessments and exams in a different order from the regular PLTC program. The law exams will come first, followed by the written assessments and the oral assessments. The change is designed to allow final candidates to complete their PLTC journey faster within each cycle.
The schedules for all assessments and exams in Cycles 1, 2, and 3 is set out below. Note: the assessment and exam dates for Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 will be confirmed in August 2026.

Registration for PLTC Completion Program exams and assessments
At the end of the final PLTC session in August, the PLTC team will automatically register final candidates for their outstanding exams and assessments in Cycle 1. Final candidates will receive an email notification advising them to check the student portal for details on next steps, including exam, assessment, and skills workshop dates.
Final candidates wanting to defer an exam or assessment to Cycle 2 may request a deferral. More information on deferrals can be found in the following section on Student Support.
Student support
Remedial skills workshops and tutorial support
PLTC will provide final candidates who are registered for a previously-failed skills assessment with the dates and sign-up instructions for the preparatory remedial skills workshops. Additional tutorial support may be available subject to instructor availability, with priority given to Indigenous-identifying students.
Deferrals
PLTC allows final candidates to request a deferral if they are not ready or unable to complete a scheduled assessment or exam. Final candidates may submit their request up until the assessment or exam begins. However, advance notice is always appreciated, particularly in relation to the Advocacy and Interviewing Assessments.
To defer one or more assessments or exams, final candidates must send a written request to pltc@lsbc.org. There is no additional cost for deferred assessments and exams.
When a final candidate defers an assessment or exam, PLTC will automatically register them for the assessment or exam in the next PLTC Completion Program Cycle. This may result in a delay in eligibility for call and admission.
Academic accommodations
Final candidates with existing academic accommodations in place for PLTC will continue to be provided with those accommodations in the PLTC Completion Program.
Final candidates seeking new or revised academic accommodations must complete and submit the relevant request forms to Accommodations@lsbc.org.
- Accommodation Request - Candidate Form
- Accommodation Request - Medical Form (to be completed by a qualified healthcare professional)
Accommodation request packages should be submitted at soon as possible and at least 30 days before the scheduled exam or assessment date. If a request package is late or incomplete, the PLTC team may not be able to assess the request and set up supports.
