PREP (Practice Readiness Education Program), offered by the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED), is the official bar admission training course for BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Nunavut.
You must complete PREP within the 24-month admission period preceding your application for call and admission in BC: Rule 2-76.
Course overview
PREP is an online course that combines learning modules, interactive learning, and practice simulation to support entry level competency to practice. For 2026 and 2027, BC applicants have the option of completing PREP:
- full-time over 11 weeks, starting September 2026, February 2027, June 2027, and September 2027, or
- part-time over 9 months, starting May 2027.

Registering for PREP
You will register for and pay for PREP directly with CPLED: CPLED Registration. Registration typically opens 4-6 weeks before the start of a session.
PREP registration is a separate process from applying for articling enrolment with the Law Society. You do not have to be enroled as an articled student to register for PREP.
Law Society tuition subsidy

When to complete PREP
Once you have obtained a Canadian common law degree or Certificate of Qualification issued by the National Committee on Accreditation, you may complete PREP when it works best for you. This could be before, after, or during a break in your articling term.
It is important to be aware that you must complete your supervised experience (articling or clerking) and PREP within the 24 months immediately preceding the date you apply for call and admission. This 24-month window is referred to as your “admission period”: Rule 2-76.
Previous training course – PLTC
Candidates who attended the Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC) are able to complete any failed or deferred assessments or exams through the PLTC Completion Program and will be able to rely on PLTC completion for call and admission provided it falls within their 24-month admission period.
